TB continues to be the leading cause of death in South Africa. WHO gives a figure of 25,000 deaths from TB in South Africa in 2011 but this excludes those people who had both TB and HIV infection when they died. These people are internationally considered to have died of HIV.The South African causes of death from death notifications, gives a figure of 62,827 for 2010 which is 11.6% of the number of people who have died, and this includes people who also had HIV infection as well as TB.
